This is the colour our house used to be - a boring battleship grey, with dark green trim and grey doors. I've never liked it, and so, over the last couple of weeks, we have been choosing colours, painting test patches, then deciding on Turkish Coffee. The walls needed a bit of re-rendering and washing down first and then two coats of paint. My husband John did most of the work, in the 40 degree heat, I'm surprised the paint didn't dry on the brush!
And now, with the doors a gorgeous deep red, it looks fantastic, and fits into the landscape as if it were meant to be here. John has also put some shade sails up at the back of the house to keep the sun out during the very hot summer and reduce our energy use. We already have lots of insulation in the roof to keep the place cool in summer and warm in winter.
I've lived in Alice Springs for six years now, with my husband and our cat, Olly. We set up our Camel Cottage rental apartment for visitors to the Red Centre, so I hope to give people a flavour of the amazing landscape here and what's going on in this little town.
