On the Queen's Birthday weekend we drove out to Ormiston Gorge, in the West MacDonnell Ranges for a picnic with friends by the water hole. The water didn't look too inviting, although I saw one brave swimmer take the plunge. We walked up to the lookout at the top of the cliff for the stunning view along the massive redstone Gorge. Ormiston is about an hour's drive from Alice Springs, with a great campsite, a little shop and fantastic walks. The Ranger gives regular talks there about the wildlife, the flora and geology of the gorge.
I've lived in Alice Springs for six years now, with my husband and our cat, Olly. We set up our Camel Cottage rental apartment for visitors to the Red Centre, so I hope to give people a flavour of the amazing landscape here and what's going on in this little town.
